Tamil Nadu: Burglars Withdraw Money From Stolen ATM And Abandon Machine | Coimbatore News

COIMBATORE: A day after a four-member gang robbed a Bank of Baroda automatic teller machine (ATM) on Koolipalayam Four Road near Uthukuli in Tirupur district, the machine was found abandoned on vacant land in Velliyampalayam , some 300 meters from Salem -Kochi National Highway, to Erode in a damaged condition on Monday.
The gang uprooted the ATM that was attached to the cabin floor after strapping it with a crane belt and hooking it up to a stolen sport utility vehicle (SUV), which was then pulled at full speed around 4.30am Sunday morning. CCTV footage of the incident had gone viral on social media.
The gang then took the ATM with 1,00,100 rupees in the SUV, which was found abandoned in Vijayamangalam near Perundurai in the Erode district on the same day. Tirupur police officials had formed six special teams to catch the gang members.
A police officer said the gang took the ATM to an isolated location in Velliyampalayam and opened it with a welding machine to steal the money. “They also consumed alcohol from there and left the ATM and bottles of alcohol behind. Forensic experts took fingerprints from bottles and ATMs.
Rural Tirupur Police said they were investigating from different angles and would stop the ATM burglars as soon as possible.
