Robert Lee Cohoon, 89, left this life on January 31, 2022 to live with his Lord, Jesus, who is the Christ of the living God. Robert was born in Bucklin, Missouri on May 12, 1932, to Victor Gale and Catherine Bliss (Jose) Cohoon. He attended Bucklin Public School and graduated from Bucklin High School in 1950. During his youth, Robert worked for his father in the utility winch truck company of Gale (VG) Cohoon on the construction of pipelines throughout the United States. Robert Lee Cohoon married Mary Ann Hughes in Bucklin, Missouri on September 14, 1952, before leaving for the Korean War. Robert served in the Korean War with C Battery, 235 Field Artillery Observation Battalion. His unit was attached to the Republic of Korea Army as a forward observation unit that directed UN fire against the enemy. C Battery was awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation by General Taylor, with the letter of citation stating that it “has displayed such exceptional devotion to duty in the performance of exceptionally arduous tasks that it l distinguished and above other units with similar missions”. After being discharged from the military, Robert went to Kansas City Business College. Then Robert took a job as an accountant in Brookfield, Missouri for Brookfield Tire & Supply for 2 years. In 1958 Robert went to work for Midland Machinery Company (a Caterpillar tractor dealership that became Dean Machinery Company) in Chillicothe, Missouri. Robert worked his way up the corporate ladder (starting in Chillicothe and ending in Kansas City) until he became Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer of Dean Machinery Company, Dean Realty Company and Dean Operations. Retiring in 1993, Robert and his lifelong sweetheart, Mary Ann, enjoyed traveling to visit their children and eleven grandchildren. Robert enjoyed hunting, gardening, reading, KC Royals and Chiefs games, MU Tigers football and basketball games, playing board and card games with his children and grandchildren, going fishing (especially with his grandchildren). Robert was predeceased by his parents, his sister Lovene and his brother Bill. Robert is survived by his wife Mary Ann, brother Don, sisters Vicky and Ruth, son Steve (wife Kathy), daughter Cathy (husband Mike), daughter Amy (husband Brad), grandchildren Hannah, Ashley (husband Marty), Caleb (wife Alicia), Josh, Jake, Emily, Tim (wife Nicole), Chris, Tabitha, Ian and Matthew. Robert leaves two great-grandchildren William and Matthew. Robert Cohoon was a stern but generous man who was very proud of his family and his accomplishments. We all look forward to the day when we will be with him again.
Funeral services will be held at McGilley & Sheil Funeral Home, 11924 East 47th Street Kansas City, MO on Wednesday, February 9.
