In addition to fleet refueling, the station will be used as a staging area for Marlin Gas Services to fill CNG transport trailers for its virtual pipeline services. A lane dedicated to filling transport trailers will allow Marlin to better serve its customers in the Southeast.
Today’s groundbreaking event celebrated the opening of the gas station and included representatives from the Georgia Public Service Commission, Georgia Ports Authority, savanna town and the Town of Port Wentworthamong others.
Marlin Compression’s CNG refueling station is located along the I-95 corridor near the Port of Savannah, within the Port Fuel Center. The newly constructed Port Fuel Center provides customers with sustainable fuel options and reduces fuel costs at the Port of Savannah and surrounding communities.
Marlin Compression built the station in partnership with Atlanta Gas Light, a subsidiary of Southern Company Gas. In 2020, Atlanta Gas Light announced that it had reached an agreement with Chesapeake Utilities to build and maintain the station.
“The Marlin Compression CNG Station is another example of Chesapeake Utilities’ leadership in the transition to low carbon energy,” said Jeff Menager, Chairman and CEO. “Our service extensions not only provide access to low-carbon energy, but they also contribute to the economic well-being of the communities we serve. In partnership with Atlanta Gas Light, Southern Company Gas and the Port Fuel Center, we are excited to offer CNG as a low-emissions fuel option for fleets of trucks and other vehicles that operate in and around the Port of Savannah. In the near future, we will provide an RNG option on the same site to advance our efforts in developing sustainable energy projects.”
As part of the company’s mission, Chesapeake Utilities strives to improve the lives of people and the communities where its employees live, work and serve. During the grand opening ceremony earlier today, Chesapeake Utilities announced a $10,000 donation to United Way of the Coastal Empire. The organization serves members of the bryan, Chatham, Freedom and Effingham communities.
